FREMONT, NE -- Former Harlan resident Betty Boeck of Fremont, NE will observe her 90th birthday on February 7. Betty has been a lifelong resident of Shelby County until September 2015 when she moved to Heritage Shalimar Gardens assisted living facility in Fremont.    Betty will celebrate with her family on February 7 in Fremont.     HARLAN -- Lee and Alice Kenkel of Harlan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 23 with a Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. Their children and grandchildren participated in the Mass followed by a dinner at the Therkildsen Activity Center in Harlan.    Their family includes EAnn and Dan Christensen, Defiance, Jennifer and Jay Denne, Sioux City; Kimberly and Chad Graeve, Earling; and seven grandchildren.

    HARLAN -- Jana Wolken and Tyler Lefeber both of Memphis, TN exchanged marriage vows at First United Methodist Church in Harlan on May 9, 2015. The 3 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Darwin Moore.    Parents of the couple are Chuck and Ann Wolken, Harlan; and Dean and Cindy Lefeber, Harlan. 

    AVOCA -- Leora Torres of Avoca will observe her 100th birthday on February 3. Leora’s family includes one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dick Johnson, Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren and five great-grandsons.    A native of rural Walnut, Leora attended country school from kindergarten through the 8th grade, and graduated from Walnut High School in 1933. In 1968 she took a job as a clerk in the Pottawattamie County Courthouse in Avoca.

    WESTPHALIA -- Harold and Pearl Schulte of Westphalia will mark their 60th wedding anniversary on February 6.    Their family is planning a card shower in their honor.     JACKSONVILLE -- Ashley Nelsen of Harlan and Michael Weddell of Federal Heights, CO exchanged marriage vows on July 18, 2015 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville. Pastor Ron Rasmussen performed the double ring ceremony.    Parents of the couple are Mark and Donna Nelsen, Harlan; and Michael J. Weddell, Glenwood Springs, CO and Shelly Weddell, Denver, CO. 

    PANAMA -- Alice Kwapiszeski of Panama will celebrate her 95th birthday with an open house on Sunday, January 24 from 1-4 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Parish Center in Panama.
