HARLAN -- Patricia “Pat” Miller of Harlan will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house on Saturday, March 5 from 2-4 p.m. at the Therkildsen Activity Center in Harlan.    The celebration will be hosted by her family. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.

    WESTPHALIA -- Ivo Wilwerding of Westphalia will mark his 80th birthday on March 5. Cards will reach him if sent to 723 St. F32, Harlan, IA 51537.    Ivo and his wife, Darlene, have been married for 55 years. They reside on the family farm west of Westphalia.

    GILBERTVILLE,  IA -- Terri Oltrogge of Des Moines and Michael Weis of Ankeny were married at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville on November 14, 2015. Father Huber performed the 1 p.m. double ring ceremony.    Terri is the daughter of Phil Oltrogge, Waterloo; and Carol Jordan, Gilbertville. Michael is the son of Bob and Donna Weis, Harlan. 

RURAL SHELBY -- Kristah Lynn Carlson and Mark Thomas Nelson both of Omaha exchanged marriage vows on September 6, 2015 at the Willow Creek Glass Chapel near Shelby. The 3 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Phillip Nielsen of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan.    Parents of the couple are Michael Carlson, Orlando, FL; Teresa Carlson, Omaha; and Verne and Ilene Nelson, Harlan. 

    SKEIN, NORWAY -- Mary Elizabeth Vorrath and Ole Martin Kolsrud both of Bergan, Norway will exchange marriage vows on May 14 in a ceremony in Skein, Norway.    Mary is the daughter of Jill and Ron Davis, Harlan; and Doug and Margarita Vorrath, Denison. She is also the granddaughter of Loren and Jeanette Ferry, Manilla. 

    HARLAN -- Hazel Muller of Harlan will celebrate her 90th birthday on February 27. A card shower in her honor is being requested by her family. Cards will reach her if mailed to 1407 Country Club Drive, Harlan, IA 51537.    Hazel has three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Rick, Linda and Bruce, and Judy and Bryan. She also has two grandchildren. 

DES MOINES -- Marisa Glyn Swoboda and Todd Joseph Theulen both of Des Moines exchanged marriage vows on October 24, 2015 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines. Pastor Matt Mardis-LeCroy performed the 4 p.m. double ring ceremony.    Parents of the couple are Tara Swoboda, Des Moines; Bill and Juanita Swoboda, Des Moines; and Jeff and Janet Theulen, Defiance. 

    PORTSMOUTH -- The family of Alice Rau is planning a card shower in honor of her 80th birthday on February 25.

    HARLAN -- Ron and Jennifer French of Irwin announce the engagement of their daughter, Alexandrea to Joel North both of Harlan. Joel is the son of John and Cindy North, Harlan.    The couple will marry on April 9 at First Baptist Church in Harlan. 

    IRWIN -- Vernon and Nora Campbell of Irwin will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on February 19. They plan to celebrate with a family dinner.    The couple’s daughters and their spouses are Debra and Robert McLaughlin, Shelby; Dianne and Jim Buman, Harlan; and Denise and Robert Wiig, Irwin. The Campbells have six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. 

    WALNUT -- Kenny and Doris Blum of Walnut will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at an open house on Sunday, February 14 from 2-5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Walnut.

    DEFIANCE -- Albert and Gay Schwarte of Defiance will mark their 60th wedding anniversary on February 14. They plan to celebrate with  a family brunch.        The couple has one son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Anna Schwarte, Irwin. The Schwartes have two grandchildren. Albert is a retired farmer. Gay is a homemaker.

LOUIS, MO -- Maggie Dust and Todd DeWees both of St. Louis will exchange marriage vows on April 22 in a ceremony at 9th Street Abbey in St. Louis.    Parents of the couple are Cecil and Mary Ann Dust, Ellisville, MO; and former Harlan residents Doug and Laurel DeWees, Maricopa, AZ. Todd is the grandson of Bonnie Peterson, Harlan. 

    HARLAN -- Richard and Sharon Daberkow of Harlan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on February 6.    They also plan to celebrate their anniversary along with a brother’s 50th birthday, a brother’s 60th birthday and a sister and brother-in-law’s 65th wedding anniversary this summer.
